Frequently Asked Questions
Climbing & Experience
-
No. Our retreats welcome first-time climbers as well as participants with indoor or outdoor climbing experience. Each retreat lists its recommended experience level, and our guides tailor instruction to meet participants where they are.
-
Many of our retreats are beginner-friendly and are a great introduction to outdoor climbing. Because each destination is different, check the individual retreat page for experience recommendations and physical requirements.
-
You should be comfortable spending up to 7 hours outside, hiking on uneven terrain, and carrying your personal gear in a backpack. Any retreat-specific physical expectations will be included on the individual retreat page. However, you don’t need to be an advanced athlete or have a certain body type to climb. Climbing is for everyBODY and can be adapted to different experience levels and abilities.
-
Absolutely! Many participants join on their own. Our retreats are intentionally designed to make connections feel natural through shared climbing days, meals, accommodations, and time together.
-
Climb & Camp retreats are intentionally created for BIPOC climbers who want to build skills, explore outdoor climbing, and connect with the community. We welcome climbers at all levels, from first-timers to those looking to continue developing their outdoor skills.
-
Our retreats are led by experienced AMGA-certified guides who prioritize professional instruction, thoughtful risk management, personalized coaching, and participant support.

Camping gear is limited and not guaranteed; it will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
-
Before the retreat, you will receive a detailed packing list with recommended clothing, footwear, personal items, and any destination-specific camping or travel equipment. We will make sure you have the information you need to arrive prepared.
-
Accommodations vary by retreat and may include campgrounds, shared cabins, vacation homes, or boutique lodging. Each retreat page includes information about where you will stay, available amenities, and whether accommodations are shared and/or have private rooms.
-
Our retreats take place rain or shine. While we choose dates with favorable seasonal conditions, weather and outdoor environments can be unpredictable.
If conditions prevent outdoor climbing, our guides will adjust the itinerary and offer alternatives such as indoor climbing, movement coaching, technical skills workshops, or hiking. We’ll always prioritize participant well-being while making the most of our time together.
-
Meal inclusions vary by retreat. Most retreats include snacks and refreshments on Friday and dinner on Saturday, while participants are responsible for the remaining meals. Each retreat page clearly explains what food is included.
-
We do our best to accommodate common dietary needs for meals provided by the retreat. You will have an opportunity to share dietary restrictions and food allergies before the retreat. However, we cannot guarantee an allergen-free environment.
